“Expectations…”
Walking through the trenches you can smell the stench of
expectation
As the commander you have to lead and hold the weight of
1,000 nations
You have to build bridges and buildings for the next
generation behind you
You have to keep going even when you’re out of breath
You can’t stop going even when you think you have nothing
left
You can’t see what lies ahead because the rain and the
storms obscure you vision
But everybody’s expectation is pushing you on this mission
“Don’t worry, he’s the man, he will be fine, he always gets
it right”
You have to remain tall and strong even when nobody is
cheering you on
You must flex every dimension of masculinity
You are your family’s security, your parents hope, your
children’s idol
If you fall everything will crash on top of you and your
legacy
You have to speak wisdom and knowledge
You have to solve everybody’s problems
Everybody’s situation sounds like sirens to you
Their worries are wailing like a banshee
You have to go into the wild with the lions and wolves to
hunt for the family
You come home with your chest puffed up and tail up
Your wife and children clap for another success on the battlefield
They feast on the spoils on another successful yield
But when you go upstairs and look in the mirror you can see
bumps and creases on your skin
Each bump and line represents each battle
There is a black cloud over your crown, being a man isn’t as
easy as you thought
With each kill on the battlefield you getting tired and
weary
With each leap and jump you’re getting becoming more exhausted
The expectations and demands for perfection hit you from every angle
You can’t show a chink in the Armour, you can’t be weak,
remember you’re a brave knight
So even if everything is not alright
You still have fight the good fight
But you dare not fail because of the weight of expectation...
